Chuck Simmons was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1956. He is the son of C.B. Simmons (deceased) and Margaret Simmons. Chuck married Beth Spencer on April 26, 1986. They have three children: Ford, Spencer and Mason. The Simmons are members of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, where he serves as an Elder.
Judge Simmons graduated from East Tennessee State University, Magna cum laude, in 1979 with degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice. He then graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1982. While in Law School, he served as Chairman of the Law School Honor Council.
Judge Simmons, upon his graduation from law school, served as law clerk to the Honorable C. Victor Pyle, Jr. He started his law practice with the Carter, Smith Law Firm. He then became a partner in the Wilkins Law Firm.
Judge Simmons became the Master In Equity for Greenville County in 1989. He also serves by designation of the South Carolina Supreme Court as a Special Circuit Court Judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit. He also serves as the Judge for the 13th Circuit Adult Drug Court. He has served as President of the South Carolina Equity Court Council. He has also served as President of the South Carolina Drug Court Association and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals in Washington, DC.
Judge Simmons has been named to Who's Who in American Law and to Who's Who in the United States. He has previously been named as the South Carolina Bar's "Young Lawyer of the Year", recipient of the Sertoma Club's "Outstanding Service to Mankind" award, and the Greenville Jaycee's "Distinguished Service" award. He has also been named to the National Association of Drug Court Professionals “National Hall of Fame”.
