Peter L. Fuge was born in 1947. He was raised in Maryland. His parents are the late William Charles Fuge and Margaret L. Fuge. He graduated from St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. in 1965. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He received his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1974 from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While attending law school he was a member of the Student Court and an officer with the Student Bar Association.
In 1974 he entered private practice with the firm of Dowling, Dowling, Sanders & Dukes. Thereafter, he practiced with the law firm of Harvey & Battey, P.A. In 1995 he entered the solo practice of law and enjoyed an almost exclusive domestic practice until his election in February of 2008.
Pete has been married to the former Meredith Brantley of Charlotte, North Carolina since 1970. Together they have three adult children, Brantley, Bill, and Meghan. Pete and Meredith are the proud grandparents of six grandchildren. Pete and Meredith love to spend time with their grandchildren. He and Meredith are active members of Cross Episcopal Church in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Pete was an instructor with the Legal Assistants Program at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. He is a former City Prosecutor for the City of Beaufort and is a member of the Beaufort County Bar Association, American Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association (Former Chairman, Family Law Section), South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association (Former Chairman, Family Law Section), the Supreme Court Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization (former Chairman), Supreme Court Family Law Specialization Advisory Board. Pete is active with and is a founding director of the South Carolina Bar Lawyers Helping Lawyers program and he is a member of the board of directors of the Beaufort County Drug Court. He is admitted to all South Carolina Courts, and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Pete has moderated and participated as a guest lecturer in numerous continuing education legal seminars sponsored by the South Carolina Bar for the last 25 years, including the annual "Hot Tips" seminars for domestic practitioners. He has been a strong proponent of the Bar's continuing education legal program. He holds an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
