Coreen B. Khoury was born in Greenville, South Carolina. Her parents are Edward R. Khoury and Barbara K. Khoury.

She attended public schools in Lancaster, South Carolina and is a 1977 graduate of Lancaster High School. Thereafter, she received her undergraduate degree at the University of South Carolina in 1980 graduating Magna Cum Laude and her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1985.  Prior to attending law school, she was an elementary school teacher.

After graduation from law school, she returned to her hometown of Lancaster and entered private practice. Prior to her election to the bench, she was a partner at the firm of Folks, Khoury and DeVenny where she practiced exclusively in the Family Court. She has served on various community boards including Springs Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, the J. Marion Sims Foundation Board of Trustees, Counseling Services of Lancaster and Lancaster Women's Club. She is a member of the Lancaster County Bar and South Carolina Bar.

She is married to Jeff L. Hammond and they have two children. She is a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church. She enjoys boating on the IntraCoastal Waterway, relaxing at Lake Wateree and cheering on the Carolina Gamecocks and Boston Red Sox.
