CANON 8

A STAFF ATTORNEY OR LAW CLERK SHOULD NOT REVEAL THE CONFIDENCES GAINED IN THE COURSE OF HIS EMPLOYMENT

The relationship between the staff attorney or law clerk and his employing court is sensitive and privileged. The highest standard of care is required because of the degree to which the lives of others may be affected by even the inadvertent disclosure of confidential information gained in the course of employment. Disclosure of such confidential information is highly prejudicial to the administration of justice. Therefore:

A. He shall never reveal confidences gained in the course of his employment except where disclosure is specifically permitted by his employing court.

B. He shall insure that all confidential documents are protected from disclosure except where specifically permitted by the employing court.

C. He shall never employ such information for his own or another's personal gain.

D. He shall exercise due care to insure that those employees under his supervision do not reveal confidential information gained in the course of their employment.
